The Apex of Creativity at madeCNC

“Because we work in the events and film/tv sector – the turnarounds are more often than not fast, demanding and cannot be missed. We had been let down by multiple CNC cutting services offering fast turnarounds and that is what pushed us to purchase our own MultiCam machines from CNC World. These machines have become essential to what we do and have allowed us to meet all our deadlines within our industry of fast turnarounds and ever changing, varied projects.”

madeCNC and madeWORKSHOP are a forward thinking, design & CNC cutting services in London. The operate as part of madeWorkshop, a creative construction company that has been fabricating sets and providing skilled prop making for tv, film, live events, commercials, music videos and the fashion industry for 10 years.

madeCNC is the home of 2 x MultiCam Apex 3R CNC machines which they use to offer the following services:

CNC DESIGN
The ability to transform an early concept into a functional design is what sets madeCNC apart as a full-spectrum cutting service.

Their in-house technical designers excel at taking the seed of an idea and developing it into production files for machining, fabrication and even through to installation.

They can take a rough sketch, to professionally drafted CAD plans and can apply the experience and expertise needed to see your idea through to the finished product.

FURNITURE DESIGN
madeCNC offers a bespoke furniture design service. Their team can advise, design, prototype and produce from concept to completion. From tables, chairs and desks to wardrobes and cupboards the precision and accuracy of their CNC machines, allows millimeter-scale tolerances on complex shapes and figures.

JOINERY DESIGN
An often overlooked application of CNC technology is its potential to enhance and support the traditional techniques of joinery. CNC-cut parts can be used to create beautiful and functional joinery, at speed and scale using mitres, laps and jigsaws to join a huge variety of sheet material.

CNC WOOD CUTTING
madeCNC are experienced at working with wood in all its forms, and are able to deliver a fast and precise cutting service. From cutting a sheet of birch ply to carving a single piece of high-end hardwood, they use their MultiCam Apex 3R CNC machines 24/7, cutting to a 0.01mm tolerance.

CNC PLYWOOD CUTTING
Plywood’s relative strength and seemingly endless versatility make it the winning choice for so many commercial applications. madeCNC are able to machine plywood sheets as big as 3m by 2m with all kinds of cutting techniques from v-grooves to round-overs – creating beautiful pieces that need minimal finishing on their MultiCam Apex 3R CNC machines.

CNC FABRICATION
CNC cutting is just the start. Once the parts have been machined, madeCNC’s skilled team transform pieces into finished products using carpentry, finishing, painting, metalwork, and joinery. The services offered include construction, shop fitting, architectural installations, and sets for film, tv & events.

madeCNC, part of madeWORKSHOP, have recently purchased two Multicam CNC Apex 3R Machines and we took a visit to their studio in Leyton, North London to find out how they were getting on with their CNC routers.

5. Were there any specific projects or applications that you had in mind when deciding to purchase our Multicam CNC machine? If so, how do you anticipate the machine meeting your requirements?

Because we work in the events and film/tv sector – the turnarounds are more often than not fast, demanding and cannot be missed. We had been let down by multiple CNC cutting services offering fast turnarounds and that is what pushed us to purchase our own MultiCam machines from CNC World. These machines have become essential to what we do and have allowed us to meet all our deadlines within our industry of fast turnarounds and ever changing, varied projects.

6. How did our Multicam CNC machine compare to other options you considered in terms of quality, price, and overall value for your business?

Going with a well known brand means spending a bit more money but when it came down to good reliability and having support from engineers it made more sense to us. We have also built a good relationship with the team at CNC World, which helps when making these decisions.

But usually it’s MDF, Birch Plywood, Commercial Plywood, Laminated boards, solid hardwoods and softwoods, Perspex, Polycarbonate, Corian or similar composites and aluminium sheet.

This is a huge factor. Almost all our projects require quick turnarounds, it can be anything from a 7 metre long branded table for Newsnight, to components for a Stormzy music video or pieces for giant baubles for a Prada Christmas campaign – these are all time-sensitive and date/deadline based and they need to be completed and delivered seamlessly.

We have been impressed with CNC World’s support and their engineering team has been very useful to us in situations when we need a problem resolved quickly.

We have recently moved to a larger workshop and purchased another new Multicam Apex3r CNC machine and the delivery and installation was very easy.

Yes

15. What has the purchase of the machine done for your business?

We no longer have to rely on other businesses to meet our deadlines. It has streamlined our whole construction process. It has also birthed our side business madeCNC which is a CNC cutting service bringing in a whole new stream of revenue.

16. Looking ahead, what do you hope to achieve or accomplish with the help of our Multicam CNC machine, and how do you anticipate it will contribute to your business growth or success?

We have recently expanded into a larger workshop space and taken on another machine. Our customer list is growing and at some point in the near future we will have to purchase more CNC machines to make sure we can keep up with the demand. We focus on good quality machining and getting the parts to you within your deadline and our multicam machines play a key role in our success.
